I just read an article in the Toronto Star about a salon that is now serving alcoholic beverages along side the pampering services they have always been serving up. Cheers! It's about time. Three Small Rooms in Barrie is the second salon in Ontario to be granted a liquor license under the new amendments to the laws as of August 2011.
Having worked in a high end salon for many years, we were always being asked why we didn't at least serve champagne to bridal parties, or on special occasions. Our answer of course was that "its illegal". Not that salons and spas were not doing it anyway. Despite what some say, there is definitely a demand for it. Whether it's the glass of Pinot while waiting for your hair to process, or a beer while you get you hair cut. For some, this is a great perk to an already great experience.
Salons with the license will have to follow the same rules as restaurants and bars. The great thing about this is that people have a choice. For those who do not want to have a drink, they don't have to. Three Small Rooms has decided to keep a one drink limit per visit. Which I think is completely reasonable. After all, it's supposed to be a relaxing time at the salon, not happy hour at a bar.
